Sleep could ''aggravate migraines''

08/09/2008

Sleep could ''aggravate migraines'' People suffering from migraines are more likely to benefit from waking up early than sleeping in during the day, it has been revealed.

The Press Association reported on findings from the University Hospital Zvezdara in Belgrade where researchers at the Clinic of Neurology understood that people who slept more than nine hours were more prone to intense headaches than those who slept less in bed.

It added that the findings were presented to coincide with Migraine Awareness Week, with results given to delegates attending the European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress in London yesterday.

The week-long event, which runs from September 4th to 10th, is supported by the Migraine Action Association which hopes to provide sufferers with information to combat or effectively control their problems.

"Migraine is a complex neurological condition which affects over six million people in the UK," the charity said.

It added: "As yet there is no miracle cure for migraine but it can be effectively managed."
