Seven bedtime foods revealed Those wanting to get the best night''s sleep possible have been recommended seven "super foods" to eat a couple of hours before bed.

Living and health website Natural News has highlighted the powers of food after it stated that insomnia is regularly caused by deficiencies in several nutrients.

Writing for the website, Sheryl Walters particularly emphasised one foodstuff: "Bananas are a delicious sleepy time fruit.

"They balance melatonin and serotonin levels, which are the neurotransmitters necessary for deep sleep. They also contain magnesium, which is a muscle relaxant."

She added that the mild sedative properties of chamomile tea and the sweet yet soothing properties of honey also allow a person to relax more as both disable restlessness.

Potatoes, oats, flaxseeds and almonds were also recommended, with the lattermost quoted as the writer''s favourite, containing both tryptophan and magnesium.

Holistic Online stated that foods to avoid when wanting to overcome insomnia include coffee, chocolate, alcohol and foods that are likely to cause heartburn or indigestion.
