A fitness and jogging web resource has highlighted a number of symptoms which can be used as early warning signs for sleep disorders.
Marathon for Your Good Health said that the likes of sleep apnoea and narcolepsy are of serious concern to a person, with several conditions highlighted as good reasons to see the doctor should they persist.
It emphasised the problem of tiredness during the day, adding that it is a good warning for those worried about their health.
Furthermore, loud snoring at night, frequent memory lapses, waking up with heartburn or a headache and falling asleep at inappropriate times were noted as deserving of a trip to the GP.
The website concluded: "Sleep disorders are caused by a variety of things, including hidden medical problems.
"Most sleep problems are annoying, but some sleep disorders can be life threatening."
Last month, it was reported by Reuters Health that a study at Harvard Medical School found sleep to be a defining factor in sealing memories in the brain, particularly emotive events.
