Getting a good night''s sleep will "improve kids'' lives", according to an expert at the University of Louisville in the United States.
Sarah Honaker, a psychologist at the university''s Paediatric Sleep Medicine Centre, says that children kids need a decent amount of sleep each night, as well as a routine time at which they go to bed in the first place.
Ms Honaker told delawareonline.com: "I think it really improves the quality of life for the child and [may improve] the child''s mood. And certainly that has important implications for the well-being of the family in general."
The National Sleep Foundation recommends that children up to the age of 12 get up to 11 hours a night, with teens needing only slightly less.
Parents should ensure that the beds in the house are comfortable to ensure a good night''s sleep.
The Sleep Council of Great Britain recommends people wanting the best quality rest possible ensure their bed is as comfortable as it can be.
