01/10/2008
The chief executive officer of a bed and mattress company in the US has extended an offer to late-night negotiators on Capitol Hill, it has emerged.
Classic Sleep Products'' Mike Zippelli sent a letter to the house speaker, Nancy Pelosi, offering to donate 535 mattresses to the Congress in order to aid with late-night negotiations.
Mr Zippelli said that after watching Republican nominee John McCain postponing his campaign to sort out the worsening economic problem, the political aisles were shown to be irrelevant and the salesman wanted to add a helping hand.
"Congress should be in session 24/7 until this issue is resolved, and I''ll make sure we give them tools to take some naps on the Hill, but stay in session until this problem is resolved."
Talks are currently underway in the Senate after the House of Representatives disagreed with plans to bail out Wall Street with $700 billion (£365 billion), causing Barack Obama and John McCain to join forces to recommend the bill.
