Lord Mayor pioneers sleep campaign

The Lord Mayor and Bishop of Oxford have joined forces to pioneer a campaign which hopes to highlight the plight of homeless people in the city.
In the Oxford Sleepout, people are encouraged to sleep rough in the outdoors for one night and it is hoped the event will raise more than last year''s attempt, which made around £15,000 after more than 50 people took part in the campaign in St Clement''s Churchyard.
The Lord Mayor Susanna Pressel said that she may not have the courage to take part in the event, which has now been running for over ten 10 years, but will be contributing nonetheless.
She added: "Oxford City Council spends more than £4 million a year dealing with homelessness.
"As the weather gets colder it is good to remember these people and to support the wonderful work of those who look after them."
In a bid to raise money for charity Children on the Edge earlier in the year, Karen Richards and Mo Coulson from Cornwall spent two nights on the remote Longships lighthouse off the coast of Lands End.
