Beat the "afternoon slump" with doctor''s tips
31/10/2008
A doctor has recommended afternoon naps for those suffering from tiredness during the day, with many people falling into the "afternoon slump" of fatigue after lunch.
Sleep doctor Michael Breus said that people were more likely to pick themselves up from the depths of weariness with sweets and chocolate or coffee, but a better calorie-free method was available to those wanting to be more productive in the afternoon.
He continued: "Naps are sorely underrated in the US, but I''m a big proponent of them. It''s true that you can improve your memory and sharpen your brain in a matter of minutes in a quick slumber."
Dr Breus also noted that famous people such as Sir Winston Churchill, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci and John D Rockefeller were keen on the idea of an afternoon nap.
National Siesta Day hopes to promote awareness of afternoon napping benefits, with this year''s event held on Wednesday June 25th.
