Buy off-the-shelf bedding ''for flexibility''
06/11/2008
A bed expert has argued the toss between custom-made and off-the-shelf bedding, stating that the latter should always be bought to give the user more options.
Interior design website My Design Secrets said that investing in off-the-shelf items such as coverlets, duvets and comforters was always a better option as a bed requires a lot of fabric, making it a great chance to "save big".
"The key here is the flexibility to make affordable changes from season to season and items that can be easily laundered," the website said.
It added that down or hypo-allergenic comforters and duvet covers were the way forward during this season''s cold snaps.
However, the website said that customised investments may be a better idea for such things as window treatments.
Advice providers HowStuffWorks said the best way to clean a comforter or quilt when it is in good condition is to machine-wash it in cold water, with more fragile duvets requiring hand-washing to preserve their strength.
